The semi-annual Bird Fair will be held on Saturday, September 12, 2015 at Central Park Hall at Expo Square.

Calling all Volunteers!

We need all members to be ready to volunteer some time to help make this another outstanding event for the OAS.  So think about the best time for you to be there to help, and what area you would like to work.  We will need people to help set up on Friday afternoon (pizza is the incentive for those who help with this project), MANY people all day Saturday between 8 and 6, and then to tear down after the show.  Come Join in the FUN!

 Parrot on chest for volunteers

Don't forget the monthly meetings, at the Hardesty Regional Library starting at 1:30.  Come meet the people who pull together the Fairs.

The date for this fun event is scheduled for Sunday, September 26, 2015, at Mohawk Park, Tulsa OK.

People usually show up around 1:30 to visit, and we will have a short business meeting at 2:00. If you want to bring your bird with you, we request it be brought in a travel carrier or cage or on a harness for safety. Also, a lawn chair and your favorite side dish.

Come join us!

Updates for Members

The January 26, 2014 meeting will soon be here.

The theme of the meeting is Dinner and a Movie.  We ask you to bring snack food to nibble on while we watch a DVD from our club library, GET YOUR BIRD BACK! WHAT TO DO WHEN A PARROT IS LOST.  This could be a bit of information you want to know if your bird escapes should you open a window or door as the weather becomes more pleasant.

Also please plan to renew your membership dues.  Our club fees are very reasonable, and help cover the expenses of this website, printing and mailing costs, and preparations and behind the scene expenses of the bird fairs.

And speaking of the bird fairs, the next one is Saturday, March 1.  Since they are completely covered by the volunteer efforts of the membership, we ask that you consider where you'd like to use your talents.  We'll need help on both Friday (set-up day) and from early (7:00 a.m.) through the end of the day (6:00 or later) on Saturday, the day of the fair, so there are many opportunities for you to share your time.  The more hands on deck, the easier it is on everybody, so please step up and sign up.

Finally, we are still unable to bring birds to the library for our meetings.  Contact is being made and hopes for our group to be allowed to again do what we've done for the last few years are high.  If you have any connections with either the Library Commission members or their legal representatives, please give information to Karen O'Brien.

Another Successful Bird Fair

by

2 curious b&gIf you didn't make it out to the Indian Summer Exotic Bird Fair yesterday, you missed a great event.  At times you couldn't stir the crowd with a stick.  Several members of a hobbyist photography group took some great pictures, some of which will be posted here and on our Facebook page.  Also check out what Bill Dungan posted at Flicker and this B&G photo.

These semi-annual events could not be possible if it weren't for the extraordinary volunteer efforts of the club members, and especially the Board members.  Several people commented that this was a better show than some they have attended that are produced by for-profit companies which have paid staff.  That is satisfying to hear since these hours are given outside the jobs worked to support our birdy habits.  To all these great volunteers, a round of applause.

And a great big thank you to all the vendors, and the public who came to buy from them.  The monies we make from these events go to bird research and rescue organizations, and to bring in speakers to our monthly meetings.  If you haven't attended one of our meetings, you're invited anytime.  We're always happy to spread the word about our wonderful pets and how to best provide for them.  Come to the next meeting on September 22 at the Hardesty Library starting at 2:00.  We'd really like to see you.
